George Fentham Endowed School Governing Body
The Governing Body at George Fentham Endowed School is made up of 14 governors, consisting of 2 parent governors, 1 Local Authority governor, 1 Headteacher, 1 staff governor, 1 co-opted governor (reserved for an additional staff governor) and 8 foundation governors. The foundation governors are appointed by the George Fentham Hampton-in-Arden Endowed Charity. The term of all governors is four years.
Governors are recruited from varying backgrounds to reflect the need for a wide set of skills to reflect the requirements for school governance. All governors are volunteers who work hard for the sole purpose of improving the education of all children within our school.
The governors of George Fentham Endowed school are responsible and accountable for ensuring that the school discharges its statutory duties under the law.
We ensure that the leadership and management of the school have appropriate plans and resources in place to deliver a high quality and effective learning experience for all the children at George Fentham Endowed school, whatever their ages and ability, so that every child can achieve their full potential.
The Governing Body acts as a ‘critical friend’ to the Headteacher and leaders in school, monitoring performance and attainment, managing the budgets and overseeing the maintenance of the premises, to ensure that the school is always providing an effective education.
The Governing body is also involved in setting, communicating, and evaluating the school's vision, ambition, ethos, and strategic direction, to provide the best outcomes and highest achievement for all children. Governors will review the function and structure of the Governing Body periodically, driving School Self-Evaluation (SSE) to ensure it performs to the highest standard and secures continual improvement.
There are two committees that meet termly and report to the Full Board:
The Finance Site and Buildings Committee is involved in setting the school budget; monitoring spending throughout the year; ensuring financial controls are in place and being followed; reviewing the school accounts. Governors oversee any long-term capital projects that have been identified, as well as the day-to-day maintenance works undertaken at the school to ensure the premises provide a clean, safe, and modern environment for the pupils.
The Standards & Curriculum Committee is involved in overseeing the performance and progress of pupils and monitors the delivery of a broad and balanced curriculum that complies with the National Curriculum. Governors have the responsibility to:
Diversity
Recognising and valuing the importance of diversity, our Governing Board seeks to be increasingly reflective of the communities they serve.
Provision of diversity data is voluntary. We have asked all Governors to submit their data on a voluntary basis. At this point only a small amount of Governors have submitted data. This is felt to be insufficient to be a true reflection of governance within the board and therefore at this stage we have no data to publish. This will be monitored on an annual basis.
