Life in Year 2
(In development)
As children move into Year 2 they now find themselves as the eldest children within our EYFS/Key Stage 1.
This brings with it a further rise in terms of expectation, of both physical and learning behaviour. Children continue to be supported in making more independent choices and encouraged to figure issues out for themselves, in the first instance, whilst always having the support of the staff.
During their time in Year 2 children will occasionally have an afternoon breaktime, as well as the morning and lunchtime break that all classes have, but this is something that we gradually begin to fade out as the year goes on.
In Year 2, children will sit end of Key Stage tests, known as SATs, that are designed to support teachers in assessing the standards which children are currently working at in Maths, Reading, Writing and SPaG, as well as making a judgement in Science. At George Fentham we ensure that our children receive a wide, varied and appropriate curriculum that arms them with everything they need to succeed in these tests, without ever creating anxiety around sitting them.
With a desktop computer, an interactive screen and access to numerous tablets/laptops, children have regular usage of technology to both support and augment their learning and play and make use of our fabulous 30 computer ICT Suite, every week, for Computing lessons.
The Year 2 curriculum provides some wonderful, unique opportunities for children to experience:
- A trip to the Thinktank Museum, Birmingham (Science).
- A visit from Warburton's Bakers (D & T).
- Participation in the Tri-Golf Festival (PE).
