Year 4
Documents

Our curriculum is based around the core elements of the National Curriculum, alongside the principles of BLP, SMSC and British Values. We want our children to grow into exceptional learners as well as exemplary members of society.
In this section you can find information about the curriculum being taught in Year 4, including an overview of the topics throughout the year as well as more detailed information about what is taught term by term.
Yearly Curriculum Overview.
Although children are required to have covered the 6 Phases of the Phonics curriculum by the end of Year 2, we recognise that some children will still need to work on aspects of developing their phonic knowledge and understanding beyond this. As a result, we continue to use the 'Letters & Sounds' Phonics document, along with LCP Phonics, for the teaching and learning of phonics during Year 4 (as appropriate), with particular focus on consolidating and/or closing the gaps in knowledge and understanding . For further information, please follow this link.
To support the teaching of Reading, we use a range of schemes designed to help children develop their phonic knowledge, comprehension and speaking & listening skills. Amongst these are; Oxford Reading tree (Treetops, Project X).
Alongside this, children read for pleasure regularly and also in guided sessions, where the focus is on developing specific reading aspects.
