As part of our on-going review process, we are currently re-evaluating our Curriculum Intent, Implementation and Impact as part of our Curricula offer. Further details will be published here in due course...
Curriculum Overview
In this section you can find links to all of our class homepages (see below). On these you will find a summary of the topics covered in the Year group, for the year and by term, along with further information on their curriculum. There are also links to the National Curriculum documents and a variety of activities, games and resources to help the children with their homework/learning.
Reading has a central place in the learning experience of all children so we make reading the key focus of our English curriculum. Children are immersed in the wonders of high quality texts, combined with learning reading skills that are embedded across the whole curriculum. We instil a life-long passion for reading, unlocking a rich reading culture drawn from a varied literary heritage.
Alongside this, our systematic approach to synthetic phonics ensures that all children are able to learn to read regardless of ability and background. This phonics approach teaches children to decode words by sounds, rather than recognising whole words. Children are taught how to break up words, or decode them, into individual sounds, and then blend all the way through the word. Teaching Phonics is timetabled daily in EYFS and Year 1 and follows a programme in which pupils’ knowledge is consistently, coherently and logically sequenced. We have a clear expectation of pupils’ phonic progress term by term from Reception to Year 2. Phonic teaching is planned carefully and the reading books offered to children are matched to the teaching progression.
We use the "Floppy's Phonics" scheme for our Phonics teaching and use the associated Reading Scheme from Oxford Reading Tree, thus ensuring we have fidelity to one scheme and that our children receive the best possible phonics and reading preparation throughout EYFS and Key Stage 1.
Our Maths is planned using the ActiveLearn Abacus materials as a starting point, with staff amending blocks or individual lesson plans to best suit the learning needs of their specific cohort.
We use the well-renowned "Charanga" scheme for our Music provision, as it provides an exciting, engaging and musically stimulating curriculum for our pupils.
For PSHE we use the JIGSAW materials. More details can be found by clicking on this link and a parent/carer guide can be found here.

Whole School Curriculum Intent
At George Fentham Endowed School we have designed our curriculum:
(Blue – Christian Values) (Black – BLP)
Our George Fentham Endowed School Curriculum reflects our local context by building on the experiences and aspirations of our families. We have high expectations of our children and seek to further broaden their horizons beyond their immediate environment, adding to their Cultural Capital in order to prepare them well for the next stage of their education and to create successful lifelong learners.
At George Fentham Endowed School we have designed our curriculum:
- To enable our children to develop habits and attitudes to become better learners and face difficulties and uncertainties calmly, confidently and creatively. (BLP)
- To enable our children to extend their knowledge, understanding and skills across all curriculum subjects securing high quality work, standards and outcomes from their varied starting points. (Academic)
- To enable our children to broaden their horizons and develop a strong sense of moral purpose and respect for others.

Curriculum Subject Area pages
Following a review of our curriculum offer, we have developed a range of resources that show our 'Intent & Implementation' for each of the subjects taught. Subject Leaders have produced clear, concise statements that explain the 'intent' for their subject, along with Curriculum Maps that provide greater detail about how we 'implement' this. These can be viewed, by subject, below:
